From September, all pupils will be permitted to bring their own pencil cases to school. (They asked, we listened!). So whether Paw Patrol themed, Wicked or Star Wars, our children can show their personality through their choice of pencil case! From experience, pupils take more care and pride of their equipment when kept in a pencil case. They also take more responsibility for keeping it all safe and organised.

FAQ:

Why? Don’t primary children have all their resources in a pot on their tables?

From experience, pupils take more care and pride of their equipment when kept in a pencil case, and to ensure our valuable stationery’s life is maximised, we’re going to give this a try!

Is this just a cost-cutting measure?

It’s not the main reason, no. However, it will certainly help reduce wastage by encouraging children to better care for their items. But to be clear: Westerings will continue to provide all stationery needed to every student, regardless whether they bring a pencil case and equipment to school or not. So, if your child’s whiteboard pen runs out, fear not - we’ll replace it with a school one! Pencil on its last inch? Panic not, we’ll swap it out for a new one! Their ruler from home snaps? Worry not, we’ll replace it with a new one! No child will go without at Westerings - ever.

Okay, so what can (and can’t) we provide for our child if we do choose to send them in with a pencil case from home?

Our children do not need much, in terms of stationery, at primary age. Specialist items such as protractors, calculators and compasses are provided in key lessons. Likewise, our handwriting pens are provided for every child in the juniors, to ensure all books stay neat and consistent. But, should you wish to provide items from home in your child’s pencil case, these can include: HB Pencil, colouring pencils, ruler, sharpener, glue stick, blunt-ended scissors, rubber and/or a black whiteboard pen.

Please do not include: Tip-ex, blu-tac, pointed scissors, gel pens, felt tip pens, post it notes, crayons, permanent markers, calculator, toys or other non-stationery items.

Is there a school-branded option we can buy?

Yes! We now sell House Group pencil cases in the children’s NutMarket, and on our online/app store which are colour-matched to their houses! E.g. Badgers are blue, Foxes red, etc. They are low-cost, Westerings-themed and (as always) all funds raised on our online store go towards funding new resources for our students.

 Options start from just £1!
