SEND Update: White Paper

Dear Families,
The Department for Education published a significant new White Paper, “Every Child Achieving and Thriving,” alongside a consultation titled “Putting Children and Young People First.”
These documents outline the government’s long-term vision for the future of education in England, with a particularly strong focus on transforming support for children with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities. It is important to note that these reforms are part of a long-term plan and to clarify that the initiatives outlined in the White paper are currently proposals. Many of these changes are subject to parliamentary approval and further consultation before they become law (likely by 2030). Until that time, the current system and existing legal rights remain fully in place.
To reassure families who may be concerned about what this means for specialist school places and EHCPs, the Secretary of State for Education, Bridget Phillipson, has been clear that the aim is to be supportive:
"Children who can thrive in mainstream education should have every opportunity to do so. Those who need specialist provision should receive it without delay."
The DFE has opened consultations and invites all parents to share their views. We urge all parents to do so using the email: SENDreform.CONSULTATION@education.gov.uk.
At our school, we recognise that navigating these changes can feel daunting, and we want to emphasise that we are here to support you and your children every step of the way during these national challenges. The government has outlined several key changes designed to put children and young people first.
At Lift Schools, we are well-positioned to respond to these national shifts because many of the "new" proposals are already part of our core practice.
We are here for you and your children as always.
We remain deeply committed to ensuring our school is a supportive, transparent, and welcoming environment for all our pupils and their families. If you have any queries regarding these reforms, or if you feel you or your child need additional support during this transition period, please do not hesitate to contact our SENDCo.
Best regards,
Mr. A. Stainsbury
Principal
