Week 2

Dear Parents and Carers,

It’s been a busy and exciting week in class, and I wanted to share some highlights of what we've been up to across different subjects.

English: Mastering Conjunctions and Fronted Adverbials

This week, we dived into the world of conjunctions and fronted adverbials. The children learned how conjunctions can help them connect ideas within a sentence, making their writing more fluid and engaging. We've focused on words like because, so, although, and if. You can encourage your child at home by asking them to explain how they use these in their sentences. We also explored fronted adverbials—those words or phrases placed at the beginning of a sentence to give extra information. For example, "In the morning, the class started with a fun activity." The children have enjoyed using these to make their writing more dynamic. Why not ask them to give you an example of a fronted adverbial in action?

Maths: Place Value

In maths, we focused on place value, ensuring children understand the importance of each digit in a number. We've been breaking down numbers into hundreds, tens, and ones, and even exploring larger numbers into the thousands. By now, many children are confident in recognising the value of digits and have been practising how to order and compare numbers. You can support this learning at home by playing simple games like asking them to identify the largest number they can make from certain digits or asking them to explain the value of different digits in a number.

School Council Elections

It’s been an exciting time with our school council elections underway. The children have been practising democracy, the importance of leadership, and how they can have a voice in shaping our school community. Candidates have prepared speeches, and are ready to share ideas about how they hope to make the school a better place. Voting is on Friday and election results will be shared soon. If you would like to be considered, there are a couple of days left to prepare your short 1 to 2 minute talk.

Reminder: Roman visitors and dress up day: Next Tuesday 17th September. Please pay if you have not already done so.
