🌟 What’s Happening in Year 1 Next Week? 🌟

We have another exciting week ahead in Year 1, with lots of learning, investigating and creating!

📚 English – Goat Fact Files 🐐Next week, the children will be writing their very own fact files about goats. If you have the opportunity, why not have a look at some goats together at home? You could talk about what goats look like, what they eat, where they live and what they like to do.

If you have visited a farm recently and seen goats, your child might like to talk about what they remember. You are also welcome to send in a photo from a farm visit for your child to share with their class teacher. 📸

🔢 Maths – Counting in 2s & AdditionWe will be learning to count in 2s, both forwards and backwards. The children don't need to know their 2 times table yet — we simply want them to become confident with the sequence of numbers.

Please practise counting in 2s at home when you can!2, 4, 6, 8, 10, 12... and back again. 🔢

We will also be learning about 1 more, 2 more and 3 more. Please spend some time practising 1 more at home, as this was introduced in Reception and will give the children a secure starting point for learning 2 more and 3 more.

🏠 DT – Goldilocks' ChairsOur Goldilocks and the Three Bears DT project continues! 🪑 The children will be continuing to design and make their chairs.

We would still be very grateful for donations of empty toilet rolls and pieces of cardboard to support our continued building and creating. ♻️

🐷 Science – The Three Little PigsThe children will continue our exciting investigation into materials and waterproofing.

After investigating which materials would be most suitable for building the houses, the children will now be thinking about how they can make sure their little pigs' roofs are waterproof. The children have really enjoyed being scientists and testing out their ideas!

🚶‍♀️ Our Hockley Walk – Tuesday 6th October 🌳On Tuesday afternoon, we will be heading out for a walk around Hockley, leaving at approximately 1pm and returning in time for the end of the school day.

The children will have some special jobs to complete along the way, making this a lovely opportunity to explore our local area and put their learning into practice.

We would really appreciate as many parent volunteers as possible to help us. If you are available, please complete the Contact Us form to let us know.

Don't worry if you don't currently have a DBS — all volunteers will remain together with the school group, and having extra adults will help us to keep the children safe while walking along the roads. ❤️

Your children's TTRS logins are stuck in their reading records - this is the same login for Numbots a new program through TTRS which is a perfect maths resource for practising number.
