Welcome to Next Week in Year 1!

Buttercups and Daisies have had such a brilliant, positive start to Year 1. We are both so proud of how well they’ve settled in, and we're really looking forward to another exciting week ahead!

Here is a quick look at what we'll be learning next week:

  • English: We’re reading The Three Billy Goats Gruff by Mara Alperin! The children will be using their finest adjectives to write some brilliant descriptions of the troll.

  • Maths: We are comparing and ordering numbers. We'll be using the 'hungry crocodile' method for greater than and less than, as well as taking four random, non-sequential numbers and figuring out which comes first, last, and in the middle.

  • Geography: We are looking at human and physical features—exploring what is man-made versus what is created by nature.

  • Science: We’re continuing our work on materials, identifying different types and exploring their everyday properties.

  • Computing: The children will be getting creative with digital art, using an online program to design their very own teddy bears!

Please can you also bring in toilet rolls and small cardboard boxes for next week as we will be making billy goats and beginning to explore how to join materials together to make a strong product in DT 😃

A Few Quick Reminders

  • PE: PE remains on Mondays. Please ensure all earrings are removed before school, as staff aren't permitted to take them out for the children.

  • Coats: Autumn weather is officially here! Please send your child in with a raincoat every day so they can enjoy break and lunchtimes, rain or shine.

  • Uniform Check: A quick reminder that school shoes must be proper shoes, not trainers. Hair accessories need to be small, simple, and in school colours (no fancy or oversized clips, please!), and long hair must be tied back.

  • Shirt Tucking: We’ve been working hard on getting the children to tuck their shirts in independently. Some are finding it a bit tricky, so if you could give them a little practice with this when getting dressed in the morning, it would be a huge help!

Thank you all so much for your ongoing support. As always, grab us at the gate if you have any quick questions!

Warmly,

The Year 1 Team
