Year 1 Weekly update
🌸 Parent Update
We have lots of exciting learning happening this week!
🔢 Times Table Rock Stars & Numbots
Your child has been given a username and password for Times Table Rock Stars (TTRS). These same log-in details can also be used for Numbots.
There are separate apps available for both TTRS and Numbots on the App Store, so you may wish to download these onto your child’s device at home to make practising their maths skills even easier.
📖 English
We will be starting a new story this week: We’re Going on a Monster Hunt by Malorie Blackman. We will be using the story to develop our reading, writing and vocabulary skills.
➕ Maths
In maths, we will be working on addition within 20 and exploring the different ways we can make numbers.
We will be learning about number bonds and number facts within 20, rather than simply completing calculations. For example, we might explore all the different ways to make 9:7 + 2, 6 + 3, 5 + 4, 8 + 1 and so on.
🧪 Science
We will be extending our knowledge of materials by investigating different buildings around the world and exploring what materials they are made from.
🚶♀️ Hockley Walk – Tuesday 6th October
On Tuesday 6th October, we will be going on our Hockley Walk.
We are still looking for parent/carer volunteers to accompany us. If you are able to help, please send a message through Contact a Teacher on the West Ring Plus app. Should you be available, please come to the office for 1 o'clock.
👂 PE Reminder – Earrings
Please continue to make sure your child removes all earrings before PE.
This also includes clear plastic earrings. Although these can be difficult to see, they are still classed as earrings and must be removed before PE lessons.
🪑 DT – Goldilocks’ Chairs
We are still collecting DT resources for our Goldilocks chair project.
We would particularly appreciate donations of toilet rolls/toilet-roll tubes and cardboard. Each chair will require approximately 6 toilet rolls and 2 pieces of cardboard.
The more resources we are able to collect, the smaller the groups will be when making the chairs. Thank you so much for any donations you are able to send in!
💬 PSHE – Consent
In PSHE this week, we will be talking about consent. Please do not be surprised if your child comes home wanting to talk about this topic or asking questions — these conversations are an important part of helping children understand boundaries, choices and respect.
Disco - Thursday 8th
The children will be getting dressed for the disco at 3 o'clock with class teachers. We will not need any parent helpers for this. Please collect your children from their class doors as normal at the end of the day (for those not going) and after the disco (for those going).
