Please see below updates and important information for our final week before the Easter break.
Friday 27th
‘Bring Your Toy to School’We are offering the children the opportunity to bring in either a new or old toy (this could be a toy passed down from when you were younger) to share with the class, to conclude our history topic.
We ask that children do not bring anything expensive that could get damaged as it is transported throughout the day, and no electronics (e.g. Nintendo Switch, consoles, tablets).
To support collection of these items after the school disco, please provide your child with a named carrier bag to store their toy in.
Spring Disco 3:30pm – 4:45pm
Children will have the opportunity to get changed in class with support from school staff. Please ensure they come to school with their outfit in their bag, ready for the disco.
Our Learning:
Maths: We have been exploring fractions, including finding half of a shape and half of an amount within 20. Next week, we will begin looking at finding one quarter of a shape and an amount.
Writing: We have been studying poetry and rhyme through the poem The Owl and the Pussycat by Edward Lear. The children have explored adjectives, nouns, and rhyming words. Next week, we will be creating our ‘Exciting Writing’, which will be a setting description of the island the owl and the pussycat sail to.
Science: We have been learning about the human body and our five senses. Next week, we will be labelling parts of the human body.
Across the Curriculum: We have been learning about the Christian Easter story, comparing old and new toys, and completing the construction of our puppets.
Phonics:
Thank you to a parent at our consultation meetings who introduced me to a brilliant app and kindly allowed me to share it with you.
The app is called ‘Spell It’ and allows you to input your own words to help your child practise spellings. It generates word cards and a variety of games such as word searches and fill-in-the-gap activities.
This could be particularly useful for practising the Year 1 common exception words and any individual phonics gaps your child may have.
