🌸🌺 Year 2 Weekly Update – Poppies & Violets
We’ve had another busy week in Year 2! Here’s a little look at what we have been learning, along with a few reminders for the week ahead.
✏️ English
This week, we have continued developing our sentence writing in preparation for writing our own non-chronological reports about dragons.
The children have been working hard to include expanded noun phrases to add interesting detail and description to their writing. We’ve been really impressed with the imaginative ways they have described their dragons!
🔢 Maths
In Maths, we have continued our work on place value and have been learning how numbers can be partitioned in different ways.
For example, we know that 52 can be made from 50 and 2, but we have also been exploring other ways to split the same number, such as 40 and 12. This is helping the children develop a deeper understanding of how numbers are made.
🔬 Science
In Science, we have been investigating the properties of everyday materials.
The children have explored what happens when we squash, stretch and twist different materials and have been thinking carefully about why particular materials are suitable for different purposes.
📝 Spellings for Next Week
The children will be tested on these spellings next Friday:
change • charge • sponge • strange • dungeon • pigeon • hinge • fringe • orange • range
Please continue to practise these little and often at home throughout the week.
👕 School Uniform & PE Kit
Please make sure that children are wearing the correct school uniform each day, including the correct kit on PE days.
We would particularly appreciate your support in checking that children's footwear is appropriate for school and PE and meets the school uniform policy. On PE days, any jumper or sweatshirt worn as part of the PE kit should also be the correct school PE jumper, in line with the uniform policy.
Thank you for your support in making sure that children come to school dressed appropriately and safely.
⭐ Violet Class Dojos
A quick note about Class Dojos for Violet Class: Dojos will be collected and recorded in class throughout the week and will then be uploaded to the Dojo system on Fridays.
📖 Spelling Results
Children will find out their spelling score on Monday by looking in their spelling book.
As we have PE on Friday afternoons, there isn't always enough time during the school day to share and discuss spelling scores on a Friday.
Spelling books will remain in school rather than being sent home each week. However, you are very welcome to have a look at your child's spelling book at each Parent Pop-In so that you can see how they are getting on.
Thank you all so much for your continued support at home. We really appreciate everything you do to support the children's learning.
Have a lovely weekend!
