Friday 9th October 2026

What another fantastic week we've had in Year 2! The children have been working incredibly hard, showing wonderful creativity and enthusiasm in their learning.

✏️ English – On the Way Home

This week, the children have absolutely smashed it with their story writing! Inspired by On the Way Home by Jill Murphy, the children have been inventing their own imaginative stories to explain how their characters hurt their knees.

We have been blown away by their creativity and the wonderful ideas they've come up with! The children have thoroughly enjoyed letting their imaginations run wild, and it has been lovely to see them so excited about writing. We are incredibly proud of their efforts!

🔢 Maths – Odd and Even Numbers

In maths, we have been learning about odd and even numbers and practising counting in twos.

The children have been exploring how even numbers can be shared into two equal groups or arranged in pairs, whereas odd numbers always have one left over.

At home: Please encourage your child to practise counting in twos and spotting odd and even numbers in everyday life!

🎨 Art – Clay Tiles

This week, the children have been busy creating their very own clay tiles, putting their clay modelling skills into practice. We are really looking forward to painting our creations next week and seeing the finished results!

A little note for Violets parents and carers: The children will be bringing home some small clay creations today. These were simply practice pieces that allowed the children to experiment with their clay joining techniques before making their final tiles. They are not the finished pieces, but we thought the children would enjoy bringing their practice creations home to show you!

📝 Spellings – Friday 16th October 2026

Next week's spellings focus on words beginning with kn and gn, where the first letter is silent.

  1. knee

  2. gnaw

  3. knew

  4. gnome

  5. knight

  6. knock

  7. knit

  8. gnat

  9. know

  10. kneel

Please help your child practise these words at home, particularly remembering those tricky silent letters!

💐 Have a Lovely Weekend!

Thank you, as always, for your continued support. We are so proud of the children's enthusiasm, imagination and hard work this week.

Have a wonderful weekend!
