Year 4 Weekly Update

History: A Roman Visitor This week, Year 4 had an exciting visit from a Roman! Dressed in authentic Roman clothing, our visitor shared fascinating stories about life in Ancient Rome, showed us some real Roman artefacts, and taught us about the impact the Romans had on Britain. We even got a chance to try on some Roman armour! It was an unforgettable experience that really brought our history topic to life.

English: Mastering Speech In English, we’ve been working on using speech in our writing. We’ve learned how to correctly use speech marks, and we’ve been practicing writing dialogue between characters. This skill will be important later in the term when we begin writing our own stories. We had lots of fun coming up with creative conversations for our characters and acting them out in class.

Maths: Rounding to the Nearest 10 We also started our new Maths unit on rounding numbers. This week, we focused on rounding to the nearest 10. The children have been working hard on their rounding skills, using number lines and practising how to decide which ten a number is closest to. This is the first step in building our knowledge of place value, which we’ll continue to explore in the coming weeks.

Fieldwork trip: Please send your child in wearing their normal school uniform and a waterproof coat in case of rain. Thank you to the many parents who came forward to offer support on this trip. We will be departing, after a short safety notice, on Monday 23rd September. If you are helping with this trip, please enter the classroom along with your child. We will register the children and meet as a year group in the hall, before beginning our walk to the high street.

Spellings: These spellings will be set on Spelling Shed on Friday 20th and be tested on Friday 27th.
