Dear Year 4 Families,

What a wonderful final week to end the half term! The children have shown incredible enthusiasm, creativity, and resilience across every single subject, and we couldn’t be prouder of everything they have achieved over these past few weeks.

Important Notices & Reminders

Before we look ahead to the break, there are a few practical items coming home in school bags today:

  • Pencil Cases & Equipment: Pencil cases have been sent home today ready to be replenished for the new term. To help us ensure missing stationery always finds its way back to its rightful owner, we would be incredibly grateful if you could take a moment to label all individual items with your child’s name before they return.

  • Arithmetic Tests: The children completed their arithmetic assessments this week and performed so brilliantly! We are sending these completed tests home with them today. This offers a fantastic opportunity for them to celebrate their successes with you, while also serving as a gentle tool to revisit any specific questions they found a bit tricky. We have not covered everything in these tests yet and have explained to the children.

  • Christmas Card Designs: Your children have been hard at work creating their custom Christmas card designs this week, which are also coming home today. If you wish to place an order, please ensure all completed forms and artwork are returned to school by Monday, 11th November.

  • Times Tables Rock Stars: We have seen extraordinary progress in times tables recall recently. To keep up this momentum, we would love to see the children continue logging into TTRS for a bit of light practice over the break whenever they get a chance!

A Look Back at Our Week

Our classrooms have been buzzing with great learning throughout the week.

In English, we were completely blown away by the children's persuasive letters addressed to Mr. Arable, passionately convincing him to spare Wilbur the pig and keep him on the farm. Their command of persuasive devices and creative expression was truly impressive—they certainly have a way with words!

In Maths, the class tackled a selection of challenging mathematical concepts, including counting forwards and backwards into negative numbers, identifying factor pairs, calculating 1,000 more and less, and understanding hundredths. They approached these tricky topics with outstanding perseverance.

Over in Science, we explored the fascinating stages of the water cycle, while our PSHE sessions provided a brilliant platform to explore teamwork, friendship, and practical strategies for navigating tricky situations through collaborative games.

Finally, in RE, we rounded off our unit by tackling our overarching Big Question: "Where do religious beliefs come from?" The children expressed their individual viewpoints with remarkable maturity, grounding their discussions in solid evidence and knowledge.

Exciting Things to Come!

When we return, we have a action-packed lineup of topics waiting for Year 4. In English, we will be stepping into the magical realm of Harry Potter, while in Design and Technology, the children will be designing and constructing their very own functional Roman Onagers (catapults). Looking further ahead into the term, we will also be hosting a special Wild West Day on Friday, 27th November.

We hope you all enjoy a restful and well-deserved half-term break with your friends and families. We look forward to welcoming everyone back refreshed and ready to learn on Monday, 2nd November.
