What a fantastic final week of the half term we have had! The children have worked incredibly hard, and we could not be prouder of their dedication and enthusiasm. They are thoroughly deserving of a relaxing half-term break.
Here is a look at what we have achieved this week, along with some important notices for our return.
This Week’s Learning
Art & Design: We have officially finished our Batik designs, and they look absolutely amazing! The children showed wonderful creativity and precision.
History: The children successfully answered our big historical enquiry question: "Did life in Britain get better or worse when the Romans left and the Anglo-Saxons ruled?" It was fantastic to see them using historical evidence to back up their ideas.
English & Oracy: We wrapped up our unit on 'Life as a Refugee' by recording our final presentations. The children demonstrated immense empathy throughout this topic and produced deeply informative texts. We heavily focused on oracy skills (such as managing pace and tone), and it has been wonderful to see their speaking confidence grow so much!
Important Update: Multiplication Tables Check (MTC)
The official MTC will take place on the first Tuesday and Wednesday immediately after the half-term break.
We have reassured the children that this will be exactly the same as the mock checks they have already completed. Furthermore, over the past few weeks, the children have participated in an official 'try it out' session, so they know exactly what the system looks like and what to expect.
We have absolutely no doubt that the children are going to shine and show everyone how incredible they are with their times table knowledge! For one final push, as much practice over the half-term break as possible would be amazing to keep those skills sharp.
Looking Ahead: Next Half Term
When we return for our final half term of the academic year, we have an action-packed curriculum to look forward to. Here are some of the topics the children will be exploring:
Subject | What We Are Learning |
Maths | Moving on to generalising statistics. |
English & Reading | Exploring our new class text, 'My Family and Other Romans'. |
Design & Technology | Getting hands-on to design and create our own night lights! |
Geography & Trip | We have our exciting Food and Farming trip to look forward to, which perfectly links to our new Geography topic. |
Spanish | Diving into the seasonal topic of 'Summertime'! |
Thank you for your continued support. We hope you all have a wonderful, restful, and happy half term!
Warm regards,
The Year 4 Team
