Year 4 - Weekly Update - 26.09.25

What a fantastic, fun-filled week we've had in Year 4! The children have worked incredibly hard across all their subjects!

📝 New Spellings: Prefix 'sub-'

This week's spellings, which will be tested on Friday, October 3rd, focus on the prefix 'sub-'.

The prefix 'sub-' generally means 'below' or 'further divided'.

Here are the words for your child to practice:

  • subway

  • substandard

  • subject

  • subdivide

  • submerge

  • subheading

  • subtitle

  • subtropical

  • submit

  • submarine

Please help your child to practice spelling these words and understanding how the 'sub-' prefix changes the meaning of the root word.

📚 What We've Been Learning

Here’s a snapshot of the exciting things we’ve been up to:

  • Maths 🔢: We’ve been busy ordering and comparing 4-digit numbers. This has helped the children build a stronger understanding of place value.

  • English ✍️: The children have been drafting their setting descriptions, taking inspiration from the classic book Charlotte's Web. They've focused on using descriptive language to bring their settings to life!

  • RE & SMSC 🙏: We had a wonderful visit from Reverend Nick! The children had a fantastic opportunity to ask him questions about his beliefs and how those beliefs have shaped his life.

  • Art 🎨: Getting ready for next week, we looked at the essential steps it takes to make a clay sculpture. We’re now prepared to get hands-on with the play dough and clay over the next few weeks!

  • History 🛡️: Our Roman Experience Day was a fantastic success! The children immersed themselves in history and had a brilliant time.

A special well done to all the children for working so diligently on their times tables! They are getting closer and closer to their target of achieving 144 on the 144 checks. Consistent practice at home really does make a huge difference, so please keep encouraging them!

Thank you for your continued support. Have a restful weekend!

Best wishes,

The Year 4 Team
