Dear parents and carers,

Homework, Home Reading & Chromebook Lending

Thank you for your support in a great start to the year regarding homework and home reads. As a reminder, the expectation is all children complete their SATs Companion Tasks (one Maths, one English, appearing each Friday afterschool) and at least four parent logged reads on Boom Reader, due the following Friday by 8:00.

Additionally, if your child would benefit from a school-loaned Chromebook to help them with this important aspect of learning and routine, please email the school office to arrange this.

Independent Learning Books

A reminder that children's green Independent Learning Books should be brought home every day and back into school everyday - these are a key resource, useful for notes, practice, revision, workings and more. They also foster and grow independence ahead of secondary school next year.

Photos

School photos (individual and with siblings) are next Thursday 24th September. Full school uniform is required, so as it is our PE day please send Year 6 children in uniform with their PE kit in a bag to change into after photos are complete.

School Council & School Careers

School council presentations will take place next week, likely on Tuesday and Wednesday afternoons. Any Oaks or Chestnuts children who wish to represent their class as school council member should inform their class teacher and prepare a short presentation (physical, or digital and shared with their class teacher) to give to the class about what would make them a good council member, and how they feel they would best represent the interests of their peers.

Also, Westerings hosts a number of other career path opportunities, especially for Year 6 including house captains, nutmarket employees and Westerings bankers. If your child is interested in applying for any of these roles, the details are all on Google Classroom with blue hyperlinks at the bottom of the job descriptions to the application forms. All applications need to be submitted before 28th September.

Braintree Museum Trip - Wednesday 25th November

Although a little way off, we have secured a Victorian Day experience at the wondeful Braintree Musuem in November to support our current history topic. Details of the trip are coming via a separate letter, so please read carefully when it comes through about timings, expectations and payment details.

Wishing you a pleasant weekend,

The Year 6 Team
