EYFS messages

Next week our story phonics is 'Princess and a Pea'

We are on the look out for a few resources so if you have any of these at home, we would be grateful:

  • A variety of peas

  • Masking tape

  • Sponges

  • scraps of material

We will also be be learning the following:

Literacy:

  • Story retelling: Use puppets, small world figures, or role-play to help children retell the story in their own words.

  • Sequencing activity: Pictures or sentence strips to put the story events in order.

  • Character description: Describe the princess or the queen—what kind of person are they? What makes someone a "real" princess?

Creative Arts:

  • Pea painting: Use green paint and cotton buds (or peas!) to create dot paintings.

  • Matteress Design- USing different fabics to create layers of matteresses.

  • Build the castle: Use blocks, recycled materials, or even junk modelling to create the royal castle or the princess’s bed tower.

Maths:

  • Counting mattresses: Count and stack mattresses (cut out felt or paper layers) to place over the pea.

  • Measuring: Compare lengths and heights—how high is the bed? Can you build a taller one?

Understanding the World:

  • Explore materials: Feel different fabrics (silk, cotton, wool) and discuss textures—what might be comfy to sleep on?

  • Talk about royalty: Who are kings, queens, princes, and princesses? Compare fairy tale royalty to real-world royals.

BarleyLands Trip

Thank you to everyone who has already made payment for the upcoming trip to Barleylands. There are still 7 outstanding payments, so if you haven’t yet paid, we kindly ask that you do so as soon as possible.

On the day of the trip, children should come to school in their uniform, although this may change depending on the weather (we will keep you updated). They should also wear comfortable walking shoes, such as trainers.

Please ensure your child brings the following:

  • A packed lunch (no fizzy drinks or nuts please)

  • A backpack to carry their lunch- All rubbish will be bought home.

  • Plenty of water to stay hydrated throughout the day

Thank you for your continued support
