Phonics sounds for this week:

Over the holidays

We have now completed our phonics assessments of sounds learnt so far and are really pleased with the progress your children are making! 🌟

To help this continue, we’d really appreciate it if your child could keep practising their sounds (in their green book) over the holidays. Daily recaps — even just a few minutes a day — will make a big difference.

To keep it fun and engaging, here are some phonics games you can play at home:

  • 🪰 Swat the Sound: Lay out sound cards and ask your child to swat the sound you call out using a fly swat or spray it with a water bottle.

  • 🎯 Sound Target Practice: Write sounds on post-it notes and stick them on a wall or door — your child can shoot the sounds with a Nerf gun and say the sound each time they hit one.

  • ✏️ Write the Sounds: Use the letter formation sheet to practise writing sounds carefully, saying the sound as they write.

  • 🕵️ Sound Hunt: Hide sound cards around the room or garden — your child can find and read each one aloud.

  • 🎲 Sound Dice Game: Roll a dice and match the number to a sound list — read or write that sound (or a word containing it).

  • Watch the READ WRITE INC videos- recap sounds taught so far.

  • Fred talk simple pictures or objects- Can you see the c-a-t? Can you h-o-p?

Time for b-e-d etc. Adult to use the fred talk and child to blend.

These quick, playful activities make phonics practise fun and help keep their learning fresh over the break!

Thank you for your continued support — we’re so proud of how hard the children are working! 💚

🎃 Halloween-Themed Week After Half Term 🎃 03/11/2025

After the half-term break, we’ll be having a Halloween-themed week! We’ll be exploring lots of fun, spooky activities to celebrate the season.

If you happen to have any Halloween decorations you’re finished with — such as spider webs, small toy spiders, mini skeletons, ghosts, pumpkins, or other themed items — we’d love to give them a new life in our classroom displays and activities.

On Friday 7th, in the afternoon, we’ll be decorating Halloween biscuits as part of our celebrations. If you’re able to come in and help with the activity, please let us know — we’d really appreciate the extra hands!

Please don’t send anything valuable or fragile, and only items you’re happy not to have returned.
