What a wonderful half term it has been in Year 2! We are so proud of all the children in Poppies and Violets for their hard work, creativity and enthusiasm over the past few weeks.
🎭 English – Alice in Wonderland
Our Alice in Wonderland learning journey has been a real highlight. The children have written some truly beautiful and imaginative setting descriptions, using rich vocabulary and fantastic ideas. We have been so impressed with how confidently they are applying their writing skills to bring their ideas to life.
🎨 DT & Art – Tie-Dye T-Shirts
Our creative project has been a real joy! The children have dyed their own tie-dye t-shirts, carefully sewn onto them, and will soon be printing designs to complete their creations. They have shown such patience, care and pride in their work—each t-shirt is completely unique, just like them! We cannot wait for you to see the finished results at our tea party.
💰 Maths – Money
In maths, we have been learning all about money. The children have been recognising coins, finding totals and exploring different ways to make the same amount. It has been lovely to see their confidence grow and their resilience shine when solving problems.
🌍 Geography – London & Shanghai
In geography, we have been comparing London and Shanghai. The children have explored human and physical features and thought carefully about similarities and differences between the two places. They have asked thoughtful questions and shown great curiosity about the world around them.
🌱 Science – Growing Plants
In science, we have been busy planting bulbs and seeds to investigate which environments help plants grow best. The children have explored different conditions, such as sunlight and water, and have been making predictions about what might happen. Some of our plants have already started to sprout, which has been very exciting to see! We are looking forward to continuing our investigation next half term.
📚 World Book Day
We loved celebrating World Book Day together—the costumes were absolutely fantastic, and it was clear how much effort had gone into them. Thank you so much for your support.
🏃♂️ PE Update
Unfortunately, one of our PE coaches had to go home poorly today. As a result, each class had one PE session and one session back in class with their teacher. The missed PE session will be rearranged for early next half term. As soon as we have a confirmed date, we will let you know so that children can come into school in their PE kits on that day.
🤝 A Big Thank You
A huge thank you to all the parents and carers who have come in to help with our tie-dye and sewing sessions. Your support makes such a difference and helps us create these special experiences for the children.
🌟 Well Done Year 2!
Most importantly, we want to say a huge well done to all of the children. They have worked incredibly hard, supported one another and brought such joy and positivity to the classroom every day.
We hope you all have a restful and happy half term, and we look forward to seeing you all again soon for another exciting term ahead!
