Reading Expectation

Good morning,

Your child has now received a new Year 1 Reading Record. Their Google login details have been attached to the first page. You do not need to use these details unless directed by your child’s class teacher. At this stage, the logins are mainly for school use, so please ensure your child brings their Reading Record to school every day in case it is needed.

Your child has also been given two books for home reading:

  • A Read Write Inc. (RWI) book, which matches the sounds and words they are learning in school.

  • A library book to enjoy and share together.

When reading at home, please prioritise the RWI book. We recommend that children read at home at least four times each week. Each time you read, please record a short comment in their Reading Record as evidence.

Reading Records will be checked every Friday by a member of staff. If your child has read four or more times, they will earn 5 dojos and will also be entered into a draw for a golden token. Winning a golden token means your child can choose a book from our vending machine to take home and keep.

Thank you for your continued support with your child’s reading journey. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to ask.

Kind regards,

Miss Stryczek and Miss Bater
