Wild West Adventures, Rugby Fun, and Brilliant Learning!
What an exciting end to our half term we have coming up! The children have been working so hard and truly deserve all the fun ahead. Here’s a little look at what’s happening over the next week and a bit in Poppies and Violets…
🤠 Wild West Day – This Friday!
This Friday we’ll be heading outdoors for our Wild West adventure! The children will be taking part in a range of exciting activities, including time in the mud kitchen, where things may get a little bit muddy (and that’s all part of the fun!).
Please could all children come dressed in appropriate clothing for school — that means wellies, warm layers, waterproofs, and anything you don’t mind getting a bit muddy. It is absolutely crucial that every child brings a full change of clothes and shoes for after the session.
The Wild West activities will run from 9:30–11:30am, and afterwards the children will change into their normal clothes for the rest of the day.
If the weather is very windy, we may reschedule for safety reasons, but a little drizzle won’t stop our cowboys and cowgirls! We’ll make a sensible call on the morning depending on conditions.
🏉 Rugby Visitor – Monday 13th October
We’re thrilled to welcome a rugby coach into school next Monday to give the children a fun, active session learning new skills and teamwork! Please send your child to school in their PE kit on Monday, just as if it were a normal PE day. They’ll enjoy an extra hour of sport — a great way to start the week!
✏️ What We’re Learning
In maths, we’ve been working on odd and even numbers and counting in twos — and the children have absolutely shone with their understanding and enthusiasm.
In English, we’re building up to writing our very own non-chronological reports about dragons! The children have impressed us with their imagination and their growing understanding of using the present tense and writing different sentence types such as statements. Their ideas have been truly amazing!
🎵 School Disco – Thursday
Don’t forget — it’s the school disco next Thursday! We can’t wait to see everyone’s dance moves and party spirit as we celebrate a fantastic half term.
➕ Arithmetic Papers
Next week, the children will be completing an arithmetic test in class. We’ll send the paper home afterwards so you can see how they got on and which questions they might want to practise over half term.
We’ll also send home a teacher example paper showing the methods and layouts we teach in school. We know many parents learned slightly different methods at school, so this is a helpful way to see how we support children with their maths learning.
Thank you, as always, for your continued support and encouragement — it makes such a difference. We’re so proud of everything the children have achieved this half term, and we can’t wait to round it off with a week full of fun, learning, and laughter! 💛
