Year 2 Weekly Update – Violets and Poppies

Dear Parents and Carers,
We hope you have all had a lovely week. We would like to start by saying a huge well done to the children in Violets and Poppies for their fantastic behaviour and effort throughout the week. They have really impressed us with their positive attitudes to learning and kindness towards one another.
📋 History & Geography Questionnaire
Earlier this week, the children came home with a piece of paper containing a QR code linking to a short questionnaire about what school was like for parents, carers, and grandparents when they were younger. This information will be used to support a History and Geography session later on in the year. We would be extremely grateful if you could take a few moments to complete this, as it will really enrich the children’s learning.
📚 Learning This Week: English & Maths
In English, we have been enjoying reading The Velveteen Rabbit and exploring its characters and themes. The children have shown great engagement and understanding, and we are very much looking forward to writing our own stories inspired by The Velveteen Rabbit next week.
In Maths, we have been focusing on place value, and the children have truly impressed us with their effort, enthusiasm, and growing confidence in these sessions.
➕ Miss Dee’s Monday Arithmetic Sessions
A big thank you to all parents and carers for your prompt and enthusiastic response to registering your interest in the Monday arithmetic session. Due to the high level of interest, Miss Dee will be sending letters home to confirm places for:
10 children in Spring 1
10 children in Spring 2
10 children in Summer 1
10 children in Summer 2
🧣 Cold Weather Reminder
As the weather has turned particularly bitter, please ensure children are wrapped up warm, with hats, scarves, and gloves brought into school each day.
Please put names in all of these! We have a small army of gloves missing their owner at the end of each day!
🏃 PE Day Reminder
A quick reminder that PE will now take place on Tuesdays going forward, so please ensure children are dressed appropriately on this day. We are sorry for the changes, and would like to reassure you that this is now the day permanently.
