Year 4 Weekly Update - 06.02.26

Another amazing week for Year 4! We cannot believe that there is only 1 more week before half term!

In Art, we combined all the sketching techniques we’ve mastered this term to bring Hogwarts to life. The attention to detail in their castle drawings was truly magical!

Meanwhile, in Spanish, we took a trip to outer space. The children practiced describing parts of the face and body by designing and labelling their own aliens.

Our focus in English has been on elevating our descriptive language. We’ve been diving deep into:

  • Expanded noun phrases and prepositional phrases.

  • Conjunctions to bridge complex ideas.

  • Similes and metaphors—we were blown away by the creativity and vocabulary they used in their ideas!

To bring our learning to life, we ended the week building fantastic rainforest dioramas. these will serve as the 3D inspiration for our narrative writing next week!

We kicked off our new topic on Angles and their enthusiasm for this has been amazing! We have been identifying Acute, Obtuse, Right, and Reflex angles.

We had a "big question" challenge: “Is it possible for a triangle to have two right angles?” It was wonderful to watch the children challenge each other’s viewpoints respectfully, using mathematical reasoning to prove their answers.

In our PSHE sessions, we held some powerful discussions regarding hurtful behaviour. We explored how our words and actions can affect others, even when we don't intend for them to be unkind. The maturity shown during these conversations was truly impressive.

Our spellings this week are Challenge Words. These will be tested on Friday 13th February. The spellings are:

  • caught

  • exercise

  • business

  • breath

  • although

  • possession

  • medicine

  • extreme

  • different

  • thought

Next week updates and reminders:

  • No toys or belongings from home should be brought in to school please, unless the children are sharing something for Show and Tell

  • A reminder to please record any reading on Boom Reader!

Tuesday - Safer Internet Day. The children were be taking part in a range of activities based on the theme 'Smart tech, safe choices'

Wednesday - We will be watching Year 3's dress rehearsal for their production

We hope you have a wonderful weekend!
