Year 4 Weekly Update - 06.03.26

A Week of Wonder, Wealth, and World Travel!

What a whirlwind of a week we’ve had! From literary legends to financial literacy, the children have been incredibly busy exploring new concepts and showcasing their creativity. Here is a look at what we’ve been up to:

World Book Day Success

World Book Day was a spectacular highlight. The effort put into the costumes truly brought the classroom to life!

• Creative Art: Inspired by the wonderful world of Julia Donaldson, the children created stunning artwork based on her iconic characters.

• The Parade: We took our celebration outdoors for a vibrant parade, showing off our literary flair to the whole school.

• Buddy Reading: It was heartwarming to watch Year 4 demonstrate leadership and kindness while sharing books with the younger children.

  
  

Maths & PSHE

We’ve taken a very practical approach to finances this week, linking our learning across subjects to give it a "real-life" feel.

• The Classroom Restaurant: In Maths, we turned the room into a restaurant! We used role-play to practice calculating totals and giving change, helping them understand the value of money in a functional setting.

• Smart Spending: In PSHE, we went deeper into the "why" behind spending. We discussed how people make decisions on what to buy and explored various payment methods, from physical cash to digital transactions.

English: Bringing Biographies to Life

Our budding authors have been busy crafting biographies about famous explorers. This week, the focus was on:

• Vivid Descriptions: Using descriptive writing to make our explorers leap off the page.

• Chronological Flow: Since a biography follows a person's life journey, we’ve been mastering time adverbials (e.g., “Shortly after,” “Years later,” “Eventually”) to ensure our writing flows perfectly in order.

Geography: Discovering North America

We have officially "landed" in North America! The children have begun investigating the vastness of the continent, looking at how diverse the landscape is—ranging from the icy tundras of the north to the arid deserts and tropical regions further south.

Spellings for next week will be Words ending in '-ssion':

Dates for the diary next week:

Friday - We have our Mother's Day and Marvellous Others' gift shop. If the children would like to buy something, please send them in with the following:

• Carrier bag

• Money

• A list of people they would like to buy for. This is not compulsory but sometimes helps the children when they are looking around :)

DT project - Making Tacos - Volunteers needed

On Friday 27th March, Year 4 will be making their tacos! Any volunteer helpers would be hugely appreciated. If you would be interested in helping, please could you let your child's class teacher know. This will be taking place in the morning and any volunteers will be needed from approximately 9:15am until approximately 10.45am. Thank you!
