It has been an action-packed week in Year 4!
'Westerings the Musical!'
We are still beaming with pride following the Year 4 production! The children truly put their heart and soul into every part of it. What made this show so special was the children’s involvement from the "get-go." They didn't just perform; they collaborated with us to develop the show, sharing their own creative ideas and shaping the performance into something uniquely theirs. We couldn't be prouder of their confidence and teamwork. We hope you enjoyed watching it as much as we enjoyed creating it with them!
Science: Shining a Light on Charles Kao
In Science, we have been exploring the life and legacy of Sir Charles Kao, known as the "Father of Fiber Optics." The children have been fascinated to learn how his work with glass fibers revolutionised how we communicate today. We’ve discussed how digital information travels at the speed of light, connecting people across the globe.
English & Oracy: Voices for Change
We are continuing our journey with our class book, The Boy at the Back of the Class. For the final weeks of this half-term, our focus is shifting toward oracy.
The children are working toward a final spoken-word piece designed to inform others about the realities of life as a refugee. So far, we have:
Explored technical vocabulary to ensure our message is clear and respectful.
Begun gathering key facts to ground our presentations in reality.
Practiced speaking our work aloud to build tone, pace, and empathy.
Maths
In Maths we have been mastering the 'Distributive Law' to help us solve complex multiplication and division problems. By breaking larger numbers into smaller, more "friendly" parts, the children are becoming much more flexible and confident with their mental and written arithmetic.
Spanish
Finally, we have kicked off two vibrant new topics in Spanish:
At the Doctor : Learning how to describe symptoms and parts of the body.
In the Jungle: Identifying exotic animals
TTRS
We are on the final stretch towards completing the Multiplication Check for all Year 4 children. Please support your child at home to practice as much as they can on TTRS! They have continued to amaze us with their efforts!
Spellings this week to be tested on 15.05.26
Words containing 'sol' or 'real'
reality, solve, unreal, soluble, solution, realistic, dissolve, insoluble, real, realisation
Jumpers
Could we please ask that all jumpers are labelled. As the weather is warming up, the children are finding it difficult to locate them at the end of the day. Thank you!
Water bottles
We have had lots of children asking for cups throughout the day for a drink. Of course we will always accommodate this but if the children can come to school with a named water bottle this would be a lot easier for the children. Thank you!
Thank you for your continued support as we head into these final weeks of the half-term!
