Year 4 Weekly update

We've had another fantastic and busy week in class! Here's a quick peek at what your children have been learning:

Maths: Moving from Addition to Subtraction

  • We successfully wrapped up our unit on addition with regrouping. The children showed great concentration and perseverance!

  • This week, we are making the move to subtraction, and we will soon be tackling regrouping (borrowing) in subtraction as well.

TTRS Triumph!

  • A huge well done to everyone on Times Tables Rock Stars (TTRS)! We are incredibly proud of the progress being made.

  • The class is consistently doing exceptionally well, scoring a perfect 25 out of 25 on the Soundcheck! Keep practicing those times tables at home!

History & Design: Roman Catapults

  • We have finished constructing our Roman Catapults this week.

  • They look amazing and we are so proud of the teamwork it took to create these tricky mechanisms! We will be testing and evaluating them next week!

English: Instructional Writing

  • We've been focusing on how to write clear and effective instructions. We looked at the key features of a set of instructions.

  • The children learned how to use:

    • Adverbials of manner (e.g., carefully, quickly) to describe how to perform an action.

    • Adberbials of time

    • Imperative verbs (bossy verbs like stir, cut, mix) to begin each step.

    • How to effectively use bullet points and numbered steps to make instructions easy to follow.

Creative Writing: Magic Potions!

  • Though our potion making was sadly rained off 🌧️, we made the most of the time!

  • We had a wonderfully imaginative session brainstorming the names, bizarre ingredients, and magical features of our potions—ready to write the instructions next week.

  • We ended the lesson by pretending to be witches and wizards, adding our imaginary ingredients to our cauldrons with plenty of theatrical flair!
