We had a fantastic Fun Geography and History Day on Monday! The children became mini-weather reporters, practicing their news broadcasting skills right here in the classroom. We also got stuck into some hands-on science by building our own rain gauges to monitor the local weather.
Speaking of science, things have been "electrifying" as we explored electrical circuits. The students have been learning how to connect components to make bulbs light up and buzzers sound.
A huge thank you to all the parents/grandparents who emailed in photos of Hockley. Using these real-world references has been so helpful for the children to connect their learning to our local community.
In Art, we’ve been channeling our inner architects by starting to explore the work of Jim Kay - in preparation for drawing Hogwarts.
We have been discussing a 'Morning Meeting' quesiton each day to get us all thinking, sharing our thoughts and to be creative! We have spoken this week about one memory we would like to keep forever and what animal we would like to swap with for 24 hours! We have been encouraging the children to explain their ideas and reason with others.
We are currently getting ready to write some impressive jungle explanation texts. To prepare, the children have been hard at work researching:
Insects of the jungle
Tropical food sources
Natural shelters and water cycles
We have had lots of fun being explorers this week!
Next week updates:
The children will be completing their unseen writing task on Wednesday. This is to help us see what the children are applying independetly into their work and also what our next steps are as a class/individually!
Spellings next week:
Words where a suffix is added to words ending in ‘y’
nastiness
happiness
pitiful
plentiful
silliness
beautiful
happily
merriment
prettiest
penniless
We hope you have a fantastic weekend!
