Year 4 Weekly Update - 20.03.26

It has been an incredibly busy and adventurous week in the classroom. From solving mysteries to mastering fractions, the children have shown fantastic engagement. Here is a look at what we’ve been up to:

English: The Mystery of the Lost Journal

We kicked off the week with a bit of a mystery! We discovered a lost explorer’s journal, and the children became classroom detectives. Using only a weathered map and a few cryptic clues, we had to infer what happened on the journey. This set the stage for our new unit on diary entries, where we will be focusing on first-person perspectives and descriptive language.

Maths: Fantastic Fractions

We’ve dived deep into the world of fractions this week. Our main mission was conquering equivalent fractions. The children used visual models and multiplication facts to find different ways of representing the same value!

Spanish:

In our language sessions, we’ve been brightening things up by learning how to describe colours.!

DT: Taco Planning

Our Design and Technology lessons have been very popular (and have made us quite hungry!). We have been busy planning our very own tacos.

  • We looked at different fillings, textures, and flavours.

  • The children have been focusing on how to balance nutrition with taste as they design their "perfect" taco.

Looking Ahead: Arithmetic

Next week, we will be completing our end-of-term arithmetic paper. This is a great chance for the children to show off how much their number fluency has improved this term.

Practice Makes Progress: We have attached an example arithmetic paper to this update. Please feel free to go through a few questions with your child if they would like to refresh their memory on certain methods before next week!
