It has been an action-packed week of learning in Year 4! The children have shown great enthusiasm, particularly when taking on the role of jungle explorers and scientists. Here is a look at what we’ve been up to:
English: Jungle Survival
The classroom has been full of budding explorers as we draft our survival guides: 'How to Stay Alive in the Jungle.' We have been focusing on how to build sturdy shelters, identifying jungle dangers, and finding clean food and water. We have been truly amazed by the sophisticated vocabulary the children are using to make their guides both informative and exciting!
Maths: Multiplication Mastery
This week, we moved into 3-digit x 1-digit multiplication. We started by using visual representations (like place value counters) to ensure a deep understanding of the numbers, before progressing to the formal column method.
Science: Shedding Light on Circuits
In Science, we became electrical investigators! The children have been identifying whether a lamp will light or not within various circuit diagrams, helping them understand the requirements for a complete, functioning circuit.
Art & RE
Art: We took our learning outside the classroom to explore different textures around the school grounds. Back in class, we practiced techniques to make sketched objects look 3D.
RE: We have started exploring how key beliefs affect how people treat one another. We’ve been discussing the meaning of compassion and how faith can inspire people to help others.
📅 Reminders for Next Week
Multiplication Check Mock: Next week, the children will complete a practice Multiplication Check. This is a series of multiplication questions similar to what we practice daily in class. This simply helps us identify where we can provide extra support if it is needed and provides the children with the opportunity to practice for the Multiplication Check in June.
Tuesday (27th): Student Council trip to Greensward (for those with an invitation).
Wednesday (28th): Hockley Schools Cross Country Event (3:30pm – 4:30pm). Any children who wish to represent the school are more than welcome to turn up and join in!
Spellings
Our next spelling test will be on Friday, 30th January. The focus is on words ending in ‘-ous’, including those where the ‘ge’ from the base word remains.
carnivorous, outrageous, courageous, rapturous, torturous, nervous, adventurous, disadvantageous, ridiculous, famous
We hope you have a lovely weekend!
