Year 4 Weekly Update - 27.02.26

It was wonderful to see all the children return with such high energy after the half-term break! We’ve hit the ground running with some exciting new topics and a very successful themed day. Here is a look at what we’ve been up to and what’s coming up next:

📚 English: Brave Explorers

We have begun diving into the lives of world-famous explorers through biographies. The children are uncovering what drives these adventurers to face the unknown.

  • Next Week: We will be "hot seating"—where children take turns playing the role of an explorer to answer questions from the class—and conducting independent research.

🔢 Maths: Measuring Our World

Our focus has shifted to Measurement. The children have been busy using rulers and tape measures to work with different units:

  • Units: Mastering the conversion and application of mm, cm, and m.

  • Perimeter: Learning how to calculate the total distance around the edge of 2D shapes.

🌮 Design & Technology: A Taste of Mexico

We’ve launched our new DT topic, Food and Technology. To kick things off, we’ve started exploring the vibrant flavours and ingredients of Mexican cuisine.

  • The Big Project: All of this research is leading up to our final challenge at the end of this half-term: making our very own tacos!

🔬 Science: Habitats & Living Things

In Science, we are beginning our unit on Living Things and Their Habitats. We’ve started looking at how different animals and plants are perfectly suited to the environments they call home.

TTRS Day: A huge well done to everyone for a fantastic Times Tables Rock Stars (TTRS) Day on Monday! The enthusiasm for maths was brilliant to see, and the costumes/energy were top-notch.

  • The spellings for this week are:

Words ending in ‘tion’

nomination

hesitation

completion

stagnation

invention

injection

communication

migration

action

selection

These will be tested on Friday 6th March.

Next week:

Monday - Parent Pop in - Please come and join us to celebrate the children's work!

Tuesday - Usborne Book fair after school (please see updates from Miss Jackson)

Thursday - World Book Day - We cannot wait to have a fun filled day exploring our favourite books and the books of Julia Donaldson! We will still have PE on this day but there will be no need for the children to wear their PE kits. The children can still dress up as normal and the coaches will adapt the lessons accordingly.

Well done for an amazing first week back Year 4! We hope you have a lovely weekend!
