We've had another busy week in school! Here's a look at what your children have been learning and some things to keep in mind for the week ahead.
Spellings: Next week's focus will be on words with the prefix 'inter-', which means 'between' or 'among.' The spelling test will be on Friday, October 10th. The words are: interfere, internet, interface, intercity, interview, intercom, interchange, intercept, interact, international.
Maths: We have been working hard on rounding 4-digit numbers to the nearest 10 and 100. We've used various representations to support the children's understanding of place value and how to decide which way to round.
English: We've started an exciting new unit on persuasive letter writing! The children are working to write a letter to save Wilbur the pig (from Charlotte's Web). We used drama to explore both sides of the argument and have been closely studying the key features of a strong persuasive letter.
Art: Our Art lessons this week have been very hands-on! We used Play-Doh to practice essential sculpting techniques in preparation for creating our Roman clay sculptures very soon! We were so impressed with the level of creativity and detial the children added.
PSHE: We focused on healthy relationships, discussing what they look like and identifying the important attributes that make a good friend.
Homework and Support
Times Tables: We are specifically focusing on the 4 and 8 times tables at the moment. It would be fantastic to see the children using TTRS (Times Tables Rock Stars) and Timestables.co.uk at home to help further embed this knowledge.
Reading: A huge thank you for the continued support with reading at home—it really makes a difference! Please remember to log all reading on Boom Reader so we can celebrate your child's success and track their progress.
Help Us Build Our 'Reading Army'!
We would love to build our reading army of parent volunteers. If you are interested in helping out and can dedicate an afternoon to supporting children's reading at our school, please either speak to your child's class teacher or fill out the Google Form linked here:
WILD WEST
This Tuesday (6th October), the children will be taking part in their first WILD WEST session!
Please see the letter attached to find our more information. The most important thing is appropraite clothing (and spare PE clothes to change into) for the day, as without this your child will not be able to take part.
Thank you for your ongoing support at home! Please don't hesitate to get in touch if you have any questions.
