Year 5 Week Beginning 12.1.26

What a brilliant first week back. We have just begun working on our new text for the Spring term - Cogheart. Diving into the world of Steampunk! We have spent a lot of time this week learning and using new vocabulary. In maths, we have been revising angles from Year 4 ready to move into Year 5 learning. Our science unit this half term begins with a study on Sir David Attenborough and history begins with locating the Maya civilisation from Meso America. We also have been reading Frankinstiltskin - a twisted fairy tale, as part of our school author week.

Spellings - test on 16th January - adverbs of time:

afterwards, earlier, eventually, finally, immediately, previously, recently, tomorrow, whilst, yesterday.

Homework

The children will have a post on google classroom for this week's homework. This is linked to our learning about angles. As usual, there is a video to watch and then some questions to complete.

Colchester Zoo

We have released our information and costs for our trip to Colchester Zoo. Please see the Arbor app and contact the office if there are any questions. We will be looking for a few helpers so please put your names forward if you are interested in helping out. Unfortunately, we cannot take you all so please don't be offended if we don't accept your offer this time around. We appreciate all the support you are giving already!

Week ahead beginning 12th January 2026:

Monday -

PE with Southend United. A course about healthy eating and activity. PE kits required please; school kit and no earrings in for the lesson.

History and Geography day - working with the academy trust on a study of our local area.

Learning plan meetings - invite only.

Football match - rescheduled at home invite only.

Tuesday -

Miss Jackson is at Ashingdon for some career development so Hazel will be taught by Miss Dee for the day supported by Mrs Woods.

Wednesday -

Writing tuition group - invite only beginning at 8:00.

Mrs Woods planning time covered by Mr Towler and Miss Jackson planning time covered by Mr Stainsbury.

Thursday -

Dance Festival Rehearsals in school - Make sure you have bought your tickets for the Palace Theatre.
