Year 5 Weekly Blog wb. 16th March

Our Learning This Week

  • English: We have continued to build our 5-part stories based on Cogheart. The children are working hard to weave their newly refined dialogue skills into their narratives, ensuring their characters' voices truly shine as the plot thickens.

  • Maths: It has been a busy week of conversions! The class has been exploring the relationship between decimals and fractions, while also being introduced to percentages. Understanding that "percent" means "out of 100" has been key as we learn to switch between these three ways of representing parts of a whole.

  • PSHE: We’ve been tackling "grown-up" finance this week. The children have been learning how to manage money, discussing the importance of budgeting and gaining an introductory understanding of complex terms like tax, interest, and debt.

  • Geography: Our map skills are reaching new heights! We have been using topographical maps to identify physical features and elevation. We used these skills to conduct a comparative study between Peru and Uruguay, looking at how their varied landscapes differ.

  • Science: Continuing our "Animals Including Humans" unit, we have moved into more specific biological changes. The class has been learning the correct scientific vocabulary to describe sexual characteristics and the various physical changes that occur during puberty.

Reminders for next week:

  • Mon: Parent Consultations (Day 1 of 2). Please ensure you book your appointments via Arbor as slots are filling up fast!

  • Mon: Mrs Keene will cover Willows class for part of the morning while Mrs Woods conducts data analysis.

  • Weds: Rock Steady Concert. Parents of children performing have been invited to watch - we can't wait to see the talent on display! (Also note: the second date for Parent Consultations is Wednesday 25th March

  • Weds: PE

  • Thurs: Willow Class will be covered by Mrs Fox.
