It has been an action-packed week as we transitioned from local history to the mechanical world of Victorian London. Here is a summary of our learning:
This week, the whole school took part in our Trust Day: Time and Place. We spent time exploring our local area of Hockley, comparing what life and work were like in the past versus today. It was fascinating to see how the jobs in our community have evolved over the generations!
We have officially begun our new unit on Cogheart by Peter Bunzl.
The Hook: To immerse ourselves in the story, we held a "workshop" session where children listened to the clanking and whirring sounds of a mechanical workshop.
Writing: Using these sounds as inspiration, the children have been crafting vivid sentences and expanded noun phrases to describe the atmosphere. We are now busy planning our "Hot Tasks" to show off everything we've learned.
In Maths, we have been turning our attention to geometry. The children have been learning how to compare and order different types of angles (acute, obtuse, and reflex). We have also been sharpening our estimation skills, predicting the size of an angle before measuring it precisely.
This afternoon, the children are busy writing TV reports in the style of Sir David Attenborough as part of our Scientist study.
Spellings: words with suffixes where the base word ends in ‘-fer’.
conferring, difference, inference, preference, preferred, referee, reference, referring, transference,, transferring
