Year 5 Weekly Blog wb. 1st December

Hello Parents!

It's been another busy and exciting week! Here's a quick update from Year 5.

This week, we've loved cooking our pizzas as part of the DT project. The children did a fantastic job preparing their toppings, and they smelled amazing! We hope those of you whose children have already brought them home, enjoyed eating them.

We've finalised our choices for the Cross Country team, and letters will be coming home soon once all year groups have confirmed their selections. Well done to everyone who took part in the trials; your enthusiasm and effort were great to see!

It was also lovely meeting so many of you last week and on Monday for Parent Consultations. We are genuinely proud of how well the children have settled into Year 5 and how much progress they are making.

  • Please take a look at the individual targets we discussed, as there may be some things you can continue to work on at home to support their learning journey.

We've listened to your feedback regarding homework. While our general homework policy has recently been updated, we have attached a short Maths quiz this week if you would like to use it to consolidate the learning that has taken place in the classroom. This will be shared on google classroom, the children will need to login using their school logins. We are trialling this for Year 5 only at this current time and will ask for parent feedback in a few weeks to allow us to make whole school decisions. Please respond when we ask for feedback as your responses will be invaluable!

Please continue to read with your child at home. Reading with a parent/carer is incredibly important as it allows you to:

  • Discuss new vocabulary, helping them expand their word bank.

  • Ask them questions about the text to check their comprehension and develop critical thinking skills.

  • Simply enjoy a shared experience of a story!

Reminders for next week: Mon - PE (Please ensure children have their correct PE kit)

Tues - Road Safety for Willows class. Please ensure children are wearing warm coats, hats, and gloves as they will be outside.

Thurs - Road Safety for Hazel class. Please ensure children are wearing warm coats, hats, and gloves as they will be outside. Gift Shop: Children need to bring in a named gift bag and their money safely in a purse or wallet. These must be kept in their lockers until needed. Dance Festival Rehearsals (2:15pm-3:10pm)

Fri - INSET Day - no children in school

The spellings for next week are words ending in -ably and -ibly:

terribly, reliably, incredibly, horribly, visibly, comfortably, dependably, possibly, legibly, sensibly

Have a lovely rest of your week and weekend!
