Our Learning This Week
What a jam-packed, brilliant week of learning we have had! The children have brought immense focus and maturity to some incredibly important topics this week. From mastering mathematical tools to exploring deeply meaningful themes in Reading and PSHE, they have done themselves proud. Here is a look at what we've been up to and a guide to the busy days ahead.
Maths: Master Mathematicians
This week, we have been putting our geometry skills to the test. The children have been learning how to accurately measure different angles using protractors. It takes a lot of precision and steady hands to line up that baseline perfectly, but they are absolutely smashing it!
English: Elevating Our Writing
In English, we are pushing for greater depth in our writing as part of our biography unit. The children have been challenging themselves to use colons and semi-colons to link related ideas, as well as identifying the most relevant times to use parenthesis (brackets, dashes, or commas) to add extra detail without disrupting the flow of their sentences.
Reading: Empathy & Reflection
To mark Refugee Week, our reading sessions have been centered around celebrating these powerful, real-life stories. The children have shown incredible empathy, maturity, and insight during our group discussions.
PSHE: Keeping Ourselves Safe
In PSHE, we tackled an incredibly important unit centered on body autonomy and personal safety. We discussed the vital principle that our bodies belong to us and only us, and we touched on the topic of FGM (Female Genital Mutilation) in an age-appropriate, sensitive way. The children learned about the importance of keeping their friends safe and the crucial rule that we must never keep a secret if it makes us feel unsafe. They handled these serious discussions with superb maturity.
Reminders for This Week
Thursday:
Wild West Day! Please check the separate letter regarding what to wear. As we will be outside all day, children must have a sunhat and wear suncream.
The Big Performance: It's finally here! A reminder that children must wear their full school uniform for the evening performance. Please arrive for 5:10 pm for us to register the children before we begin our performance at 5:30 pm.
Extra Districts Practise: This will take place during the school day for selected children only.
Scholastic Book Fair: This will be open straight after school for you to browse and buy.
Friday:
Father's Day Gift Shop: The shop will be open during the day for children to choose a special gift.
Staffing: Mrs Fox will be covering the Willows class for the day.
Looking Ahead: Next Week
Monday:
Parent Pop-In & Pre-Loved Sale. Come along to see the children's work and browse the pre-loved uniform sale.
Tuesday:
Extra Districts Practise. Selected children must come to school wearing their PE kit all day.
The Scholastic Book Fair will also be open after school for its final day.
Wednesday:
Standard PE Day. Please ensure all children arrive in their correct PE kits.
Thursday:
Extra Districts Practise. Selected children must come to school wearing their PE kit all day.
Friday:
School Closed (INSET Day). Enjoy the long weekend!
