Year 5 Weekly Blog wb. 22nd September

What an exciting week, we can't believe it's only Wednesday! In English, we're preparing for our first hot task, which is a character description of Beowulf. We're focusing on using expanded noun phrases, fronted adverbials, and relative clauses to make our writing more descriptive. For Maths, we've been working on reading, writing, and comparing decimals while also understanding place value. The children have also been completing their NGRT (reading) and PTM (maths) assessments, which are vital for helping us identify any learning gaps and plan for future support. In PE, we've been practising different rolls in gymnastics and understanding the defender's role in netball. In Spanish, we're learning how to express feelings. Our History lesson this week has been about Viking daily life and religion, and in Science, we're exploring why we have day and night. A big well done to our first group of Bikeability children who went out on the roads this week—they did brilliantly!

Reading at home

A friendly reminder to keep up the great work with your child's reading at home! Please remember to log all of their reading sessions on Boom Reader. Just 10-15 minutes of shared reading each day can significantly boost your child's academic success and emotional well-being. It's a fantastic way to bond while building crucial skills! As an extra incentive, any child who reads with an adult at least four times a week will receive dojos and an entry into a prize draw for a free book from our very own reading vending machine! If you're looking for some new and exciting reads for your Year 5 child, check out our previous post for a list of great recommendations.

Have a lovely rest of your week and enjoy your weekend!
