Year 5 Weekly Blog wb. 26th January

After a week of careful planning and immersion into Peter Bunzl’s Cogheart, today is the big day! The children have been busy writing their Hot Task - a detailed setting description of the busy, clanking mechanical workshop. It has been wonderful to see them using expanded noun phrases and atmospheric vocabulary to bring the sounds of whirring cogs and hissing steam to life on the page.

In Maths, we have shifted our focus to the properties of shapes. The children have been mastering the definition of a polygon and learning to distinguish between regular and irregular shapes.

Today, we have been specifically classifying triangles. From equilateral to scalene, the children are becoming experts at identifying triangles based on their side lengths and internal angles.

• Parents should arrive to pick children up at 11:30 am to transport them to the Palace Theatre.

• We can't wait to see all their hard work and choreography come together on the big stage!

Important Dates & Reminders for Next Week

• Monday: PE (Please ensure full kits are in school).

• Tuesday: Mrs. Woods will be away at an English Network Day, Willows class will be taught by Miss Dee (am) and Mrs Oxby (pm). The Student Council will also be taking a trip to Greensward (this is invite only).

• Wednesday: Hockley Schools Cross Country Event (3:30 pm – 4:30 pm). Any children who wish to represent the school are more than welcome to turn up and join in!

Homework will be posted on Google classroom each week. Our spellings for next week focus on words with silent first letters. Please help your child practice these at home:

knife, knight, knowledge, knuckle, mnemonic, pterodactyl, wreath, wreckage, wrestler, writer

A reminder that Colchester Zoo payments are due on Arbor. Please check you have paid so our trip can go ahead as planned.
