In Maths, we've been deep diving into the building blocks of number! We moved beyond just multiples to explore factors—the numbers we multiply together to get another number. This led us naturally to the fascinating world of prime numbers, discussing what makes them so special and unique. In English, our creative momentum continued! We spent the week immersed in our non-chronological report hot task, crafting detailed and engaging informational texts about mythical creatures. The children showed off their brilliant research and organisational skills. For Reading, we successfully finished the epic tale of 'Beowulf,' tying up the themes of heroism and good versus evil. Now, we're buzzing with excitement as we get ready to start our brand-new, thrilling text after the break: 'Riddle of the Runes'!
For Science, we concluded our incredible space unit with a grand finale, cementing our knowledge of planets, orbits, and the universe. The children have shown a real flair for astronomical investigation! Our Art session this week was a colourful explosion! The class proudly finished their space-themed canvases, which were brilliantly inspired by the vibrant, patterned work of the artist Yayoi Kusama. The results are truly mesmerising! In PSHE, we had an important and insightful session focused on dealing with big emotions. We discussed healthy strategies for managing feelings and, crucially, how to practise responding respectfully to others, even when we feel uncomfortable or upset. It was a wonderful exercise in emotional maturity.
It's not just the students who are learning! Miss Jackson and Mrs. Woods are engaging in some exciting professional development courses.
Mrs. Woods is attending a highly valuable morphology course! This is all about the structure of words and their meaningful parts (prefixes, suffixes, and root words), and she'll be bringing back new strategies to improve spelling across the school.
Miss Jackson, as Westerings is one of the most high-performing schools in our trust for reading, is busy sharing our knowledge with one of our partner trust schools. Following that, she'll be presenting to the Reading Network team in London, spreading our effective reading practices to a wider audience!
