Year 6 - Weekly Update 11/9/27

Dear parents and carers,

A fabulous first full week in both Chestnuts and Oaks, and teachers couldn't be prouder of how children have settled in and got on. A special mention needs to go to Year 6's exemplary behaviour and role modelling with their new EYFS buddies who entered 'big school' for the first time this week - Mrs Benstead was singing their praises! Some information for next week:

All logins are glued inside children's green independent learning books.

Homework

Your child's first SATs companion homework is appearing this afternoon (one English task, one Maths task) due for next Friday at 8:00am. Please support your child to log on and complete these to start as we mean to go on in regards to home learning routines. They can be found under the 'Tasks' section once logged in, and have accompanying videos to support understanding (for your child and perhaps even you!). If there are any issues, please encourage your child to come and speak to their class teachers before next Friday.

Boom Reader Home Reading

As it was this week, four 'signed/logged' reads is the expectation for each week, due at the same time as the above homework.

Spelling

Spelling words for next week's spelling test are:

  • crystal

  • mystery

  • oxygen

  • symbol

  • symptom

  • lyrics

  • antonym

  • rhythm

  • system

  • typical

Times Table Rockstars

Ahead of our first '132' check next week (a quick fire, 4-minute test of all tables from 1 x 1 up to 12 x 12) don't forget that children still have access to the amazing Times Table Rockstars platform to practice if they are not feeling confident.

Uniform/Shoes

Please see the attached reminder about expectations around school uniform - while Year 6 are generally looking smart, some large branded black trainers have been noticed.

School Careers

School career pathway applications are now open for Year 6, and all other years.

If they are interested in reading more about the roles available, and to find the application links, please get them to visit Google Classroom on a device logged in as their school account - the document is already online and has links for each role.

Wishing you a pleasant weekend,

Mr Wade, Mrs Woods & Mr Towler
