Dear Parents & Carers,
We hope your week has been as positive as your children's has! Another brilliant week packed with learning and activities which the children have taken to with a real 'Year 6' mindset and attitude.
Review:
In English and Reading. we have continued using Holes as our inspiration, forming complex sentences, and accurately identifying grammatical elements within them. In Maths, we have studied the essential skill of multiplying and dividing by powers of 10, and applied this to converting measures too, as well as undertaking out first weekly arithmetic test. In Art, we began our case study of Amiria Gale and her seashell art, and our first Computing lesson of the year had children learning about important historical figures and developments in computing, including recent innovations such as AI.
Homework:
Completing SATs Companion tasks (one English, one Maths) and 4 logged reads on Boom reader remain the expectation for all Year 6 students. It's great to see a good uptake in Week 1 and 2, and we hope to see this continue. It is as much about the routine it sets as the academics, especially with secondary school less than a year away. Homework this week is on identifying coordinating conjunctions and multiplying & dividing by powers of 10. Mr Bird has uploaded a video guide to this on Class Dojo!
Spellings:
This week's spellings are:
ancient
cemetery
criticise
equipped
government
leisure
opportunity
recognise
sincerely
variety
Parent Pop-Ins:
It is the first parent pop in session of the year on Tuesday 23rd September - you and your child are welcome to come into class from 3:20pm for them to show you their work so far.
School Photos
School photos are on Thursday 25th September. As this is our PE day, please ensure as a one-off that children come to school in full school uniform and bring their PE kits to get changed into after our photos are done.
Wishing you a pleasant weekend,
Mr Wade & Mr Bird
