Year 6 - Weekly Update (w.b. 29/9/25)

Dear parents and carers,

Another brilliant week in Year 6, with classes really getting down to positive learning habits and achieving excellently.

Overview of the week

In English, we began our new writing topic of Balanced Arguments - so far we've discussed formal language and analysed arguments for and against AI replacing teachers (please no!), the benefits and drawbacks of homework and even the impact of a local McDonalds closing or remaining open. In Maths, we've looked at both mental and written methods for addition, and begun applying this to perimeter of shapes too. In Science, we have planned and set up our first investigation of the year - how do various conditions affect the growth of mould? Let's see what a couple of weeks time brings for our (sealed, don't panic!) bread slices.

Spellings

This week's spellings are words with the sound /shul/ spelt 'tial':

  • essential

  • potential

  • influential

  • spatial

  • partial

  • confidential

  • substantial

  • torrential

  • martial

  • sequential

Wild West

The weather is looking fine for our Wild West day on Monday 6th October - please refer to the previously shared letter on the app for the full kit list. Reminder: Children without a change of clothes, or the correct clothing for the day, will unfortunately not be able to take part.

Uniform, Hair, Shoes

Thank you to your children and to those of you that have already made any necessary adjustments in light of our school's recent newsletter and uniform expectations.

Mock SATs (week beginning 13th October)

An early message to inform you that all children in Year 6 will be undertaking their first mock SATs week in the final week of the half term. Our motto is always 'Not trying to scare, trying to prepare' and our mock weeks are intended for exactly this. The results of these will be shared with children after the half term holiday, and you will receive your child's papers in our Autumn 2 parent consultations - an invaluable revision tool to help target home learning!

Wishing you a pleasant weekend,

Mr Wade & Mr Bird
