SEND parents

If your child has come up from pre-school with a one plan, please read the following message;

At this stage of the academic year, the EYFS team are very much focused on helping the children to settle into school, establishing positive routines and getting to know each child as an individual. This gives staff time to understand strengths, communication needs and how children respond within the school environment. It also helps to ensure that the targets and support agreed for the children are meaningful and reflect where they are now.

One Plan meetings will take place during the week beginning 5 October. Class teachers will be in touch prior to this to arrange a suitable date and time with you. This meeting will also incorporate your parent consultation, meaning that you will not need to attend a separate appointment during the whole-school parent consultation sessions. It will give you and the class teacher a more focused opportunity to talk about how your child has settled, the progress they are making, communication needs and the adaptations, strategies and interventions being used to support in class.

At Westerings, class teachers take the lead in writing and reviewing One Plans because they work most closely with the children on a day-to-day basis. Class teachers are therefore best placed to develop and implement your child's personalised plan, supported by our SENCO, so that it reflects individual strengths, needs and progress.

If your child has been supported by any external professionals and you have reports or assessments that have not yet been shared with school, please do send these to either the school office or directly to Mrs Shorten so that they can be added to their SEND file. These reports are really helpful, as they often contain recommendations and strategies that we can share with staff and incorporate into the support being provided for your child.

Following the One Plan meeting, if there are any areas you would like to explore further or you feel that an additional conversation with Mrs Shorten would be helpful, she would of course be very happy to arrange this.

Thank you
