🌟 What a fantastic first week! 🌟
What a brilliant first week we have had in EYFS! We have been so proud of the children and how well they have settled into school life. We have loved sharing their chatterboxes and finding out more about them, their families, hobbies and the things they enjoy. It has been wonderful getting to know everyone a little better.
By the end of the week, we are all feeling a little tired — and this is completely normal! Starting school is a big change, and our days are very busy. As the children become more familiar with our routines and expectations, they will gradually get used to the pace of the school day.
👮 Next week – All about Police Officers!
Next week, our learning will focus on police officers. We are particularly excited as we have a special visit from a police officer on Wednesday! We can't wait to find out more about their important job and ask lots of questions.
📸 Individual & Sibling Photos – Thursday
On Thursday, we will be having our individual and sibling photographs. Don't forget to practise those smiles! 😁 Children should come to school in their smartest school uniform ready for their photos.
📚 Phonics & Maths Workshop
A reminder to please sign up for our Phonics and Maths Parent Workshop if you haven't already. We have received around 24 responses so far, but we would really love as many families as possible to attend. These workshops will give you a really useful insight into how we teach phonics and maths in Reception and, importantly, how you can support your child at home.
📖 Reading Folders
On Monday, we will be sending home the children's reading folders. Please take a look at the letter below which explains how our reading folders and reading books will work.
🌾 Harvest Festival Donations
A little reminder that we are collecting donations for our Harvest Festival — your generosity is very much appreciated.
👨👩👧 Parent Helpers
After October half term, we will be looking for regular parent helpers to support us in EYFS.
There is now updated guidance which means that parents who help on a regular basis will need to have a DBS check.
If you think you could commit to a regular slot each week, please:
Speak to your child's class teacher in the first instance.
Email the school office to register your interest in obtaining a DBS check.
Regular parent helpers may also be called upon to support with school trips and visits and, where possible, WPSA events.
📱 Contacting your child's teacher
Finally, a quick reminder about communication. Please don't message teachers directly through ClassDojo. Messages can easily be missed on this platform and we are unable to respond to messages sent to us there.
If you need to contact your child's teacher, please use the 'Speak to Teacher' function on the Westerings School App. This goes directly to the teacher's school email and means that your message can be seen and responded to appropriately.
