Year 4 Weekly Update - 18.09.26

Below is an update on what we have been up to this week and some important information for the coming week.
Spelling Test (Friday 25th September) Next week, we are looking at words with the prefixes ‘il-’, ‘im-’, and ‘ir-’:

immature
imperfect
immortal
Maths Support at Home: Please continue to practice Times Tables using Times Tables Rock Stars (TTRS). We have also provided an example of our weekly Infinite Arithmetic sheet. The structure of these questions stays the same while the numbers change—since we haven't taught all topics yet, the children are not expected to know how to solve everything, but it is great practice!
Current & Upcoming Topics: Ordering and comparing 4-digit numbers, writing 4-digit numbers in words and numerals, and Roman numerals. Next week, we move on to rounding to the nearest 10, 100, and 1,000 (see attached ideas for each topic if you wish to provide support at home).
Curriculum Highlights
English: We’ve been upgrading our writing by exploring dynamic adverbs, prepositional phrases, and crafting vivid descriptive paragraphs.
Science: We have been investigating heating and cooling in Science!
PSHE: Exploring helpful and unhelpful ways to resolve friendship conflicts.
Student Council Superstars: A huge well done to all children who stepped forward! Standing up and presenting to the class takes real bravery and hard work, and you should all be very proud. Results will be announced soon!
Presentation: The children have been working so hard on ensuring their work is presented clearly for all to read. Well done!
Key Dates & Reminders for Next Week
Board & Card Game Requests: If you happen to have any small board games or card games at home that your family has outgrown or no longer needs, we would be so grateful for any donations to keep us entertained on rainy break times!
Reading on Boom Reader: Children need to record their reading 4 times a week on Boom Reader to enter the Reading Box draw. The lucky winner will be able to choose a book from the vending machine in the library! Every child who meets this goal of 4 reads receives 4 Dojo points! Please get in touch if you need a replacement login.
Tuesday 22nd September: Time to travel back in time! Please send your child to school dressed in their best Roman attire for an immersive day of history.
Thursday 24th September: School photos day! 📸
Friday 25th September: Reverend Nick will be visiting Year 4 to explore Christian beliefs, denominations, and life experiences—helping the children connect these concepts to their own lives and personal values.
Harvest Collection: Donations can be brought into class throughout the week!
