English: Windrush Biographies (Hot Tasks)
In English, the children have reached the grand finale of our biography unit. This week, they put all their knowledge and skills to the test by writing their Hot Tasks—independent biographies focusing on the inspiring lives of members of the Windrush Generation. They have shown great maturity in researching these historical journeys and capturing their lasting impact with powerful, detailed writing.
Maths: Time Conversions
We have been putting our mathematical pacing to the test by mastering time conversions. The children have been learning how to confidently convert between seconds, minutes, hours, days, and weeks. It takes a lot of mental agility to switch between these units, but they are smashing it!
Science: Dissolving & Separation
It’s been all about hands-on investigations in Science this week. The children have been exploring dissolving and understanding different methods of separation (like sieving and filtering) to see how mixtures can be undone.
Hockley Woods Trip
Unfortunately, we will not be going to Hockley Woods tomorrow as we did not receive enough parent volunteers to safely run the trip.
Instead, we will be adapting our plans and completing our geography fieldwork on the school field instead.
What to wear: Children will need to wear normal school uniform tomorrow (there is no need for trainers).
Belchamps Residential!
The excitement is building! We are incredibly excited for our Belchamps trip and sleepover this Friday. The children are in for an amazing adventure. Please refer back to the previous letter for all the essential details regarding packing lists, timings, and drop-off information.
Reminders for Next Week
Next week is a busy one, packed with sporting events and special transition activities! Please note the key schedule changes below:
Monday (PM): District Sports. Please note that due to the Greensward Space Race Day later in the week, we have swapped PE to Monday for this week only.
Wednesday: Greensward Space Race Day! Children will need to be dropped off directly at Greensward Academy for this event. Please see the attached letter for full details and timings.
Thursday Morning (AM): Sports Day! Come ready to cheer them on! Children must come to school wearing their PE shorts and their coloured House T-shirt. Please ensure they have a sun hat, a water bottle, and that suncream is applied before school.
Thursday Afternoon (PM): Year 6 Dress Rehearsal.
Friday (After School): Summer Jam Disco! A perfect way to celebrate the end of a busy term.
Spellings: We have reached the end of the Year 5 curriculum. If you would like to continue supporting your child with spellings, please use Spelling Shed.
SATs companion: To prepare the children for next year, we are sending home a personalised letter with their logins for SATs companion. This online program can be used with immediate effect if you are keen to get started!
